Better days have arrived for the Macau gambling industry as reports show that their revenues have risen between 2008 and 2009. Macau has been affected by the economic downturn as well as their controls of incoming visitors.
Bloomberg reports show that Macau revenues have risen 8.1 percent from last year’s total. Foreign investors have halted all projects due to plummeting revenues but have now chosen to continue because new signs of prosperity.
As for the Visa issue, Macau has been meeting with government officials to discuss the issue. The problem was that Macau were being incredibly selective about who came into the island to gamble and have been preventing residents of Hong Kong from entering the country altogether which is due to political issues mainly.

Las Vegas casinos have reported a 23.4 percent decline in gaming revenues for the month of March. Revenues have jumped from $556 reported last year to $427.4 in February of 2009.
According to sources, even though revenues have taken a dip, Vegas casinos are still reporting a high number of visitors. The percentage of visitors has only taken a slight dip of 8% which sounds fairly promising for casino operators. According to analysts the revenues have dropped due to the economy but also because now gamblers will find that there are more and more land based casinos coming up everyday and there isn’t that much of a need to travel as far in order to gamble. Online gambling is also another way for gamblers to avoid travel and lodging costs.
Will this be the end of Las Vegas? Doubtful, but it will definitely take a bigger hit before it bounces back again.
